Level of Service Provided:
Plattsmouth Rescue provides three different levels of service in accordance with DOT guidlines for ambulance personnel.
- Basic Life Support / EMT-Basic: Also known as "EMT-B", personnel with this level of certification are trained in a 160 hour course in the basics of splinting injuries, treating for shock, airway mangement and assisting with patient medications, as well as a multiude of other skills. EMT-B is the minimum requirement for Plattsmouth Rescue and is expect to be obtained within one year of membership.
- Basic Life Support / EMT-B with Options: These members are EMT-B's who have taken an advanced course through the state and are allowed to perform advanced airway management, perform venipuncture (IV's) an administer specific medications.
- Advanced Life Support / EMT-I99 and Paramedic*: These personnel are specifically trained in advanced prehospital care. Paramedic is the highest skill level to be obtained by a prehospital provider. Both certifications require well over 1000 classroom hours and nearly 500 hours of clinical and field time, excluding time on Plattsmouth Rescue. Both certifications are trained to provide the highest of care in an emergency, with advanced airway management, veinous accss (IV's), advanced drug therapy and extensive cardiac knowledge being the hallmark of these certifications. All members must have the EMT-B certification and a good foundation of skills to be accepted into the advanced classes. EMT-I99 class will run from 8 to 9 months, and Paramedic can run from 1 1/2 to 2 years in length.
NOTE: *Until recently, Plattsmouth Rescue was limited to BLS only. It has been in the last three years that the membership has decided to put forth the personal effort to expand our knowledge base and skill level to better serve the growing community. We are very proud to announce that Plattsmouth Rescue is the first squad in Cass County to be licensed ALS unit.
